Honorable Mention ENCostales. Army-PFC (revision) Marty Abuloc There is no peace more fierce than the ships of war that wait in silver armours No peace more fragile than each minute of night measured by the inflection of forest sounds None more sad than afternoons buried with kites unstrung, and cricket songs that defined the end of rice paddies and where the hills began more sought than a quiet sleep or an evening of songs lifted by guitar strings into the highest of stars None wilder than the skies of midsummer or softer than the clouds of rain There is no peace not for these slick hands or this blood red with rage for peace Not for this heart that can conjure the sound of home and laughter yet burns them all at a command and there is nothing more absolute than a painful breath a dense shadow that bows mercifully to whisper the music of rushing winds and lifts arms lips words emptiness and eyes that shut heavily into a deep silence even this is not peace
